In a statement on Sunday (May 17), he said that pawnshop operators must adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) including social distancing set by the Health Ministry and local authorities when carrying out their business.

Sabah delayed the opening of pawnshops after the Federal Government allowed it on May 4 with the implementation of the conditional movement control order (MCO).

Long queue have been spotted in pawnshops in west Malaysia on the first day of CMCO.

In these grim times, some people are losing their jobs, some even have to take a major pay cut or unpaid leave. It probably forced many people to make desperate move.

Please save some money for the rainy days, cause we don’t see the economy picking up any time soon. For those who resume work, please maintain self-hygiene and embrace a safe distancing! #Staysafe
