Russia Records Highest Daily Spike A Day After Prime Minister Tested Positive For Covid-19

Russia reported a record of highest daily spike in the number of people infected by the Covid-19 — an increase of nearly 8,000 cases in just one day after the country’s Prime Minister (PM) Mikhail Mishustin, 54, announced he had contracted Covid-19, according to a report Friday.

Mishustin was the first high-ranking Russian official to announce he had contracted the deadly virus. The country has been on lockdown since late March. The drastic increase comes after he told President, Vladimir Putin on Thursday that he had been diagnosed with the virus and planned to self-quarantine.

The country’s nationwide infection rate rose from a reported 106,498 to 114,431 — a total of 7,933 cases, or 7.4% between Thursday and Friday

Russia also reported that 96 people had died of Covid-19 in the 24-hour span, raising its overall death toll to 1,169.

The nation had been less hard-hit by the outbreak than other areas until recently and Putin has warned the worst is yet to come.

As of yesterday, May 1, number of cases globally sits at 3,259,236 while healing case exceeds 1 million cases which are about 1/3 of the total world case.

The country with the highest covid-19 infection is the United States which is 32.83 % of the total case of the world or 1,070,032 cases. There are 8 countries with a case of over 100 thousand including Russia and turkey.
