An 8-year-old girl, who was in critical condition after being stung by hornets in an incident at Felda Kerteh 4 in Dungun on Saturday, died early today.
Nur Nazihah Mohd Sabri, who suffered 65 hornet stings, died at 1.30am at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ).
“The girl was admitted to HSNZ at 9.17pm yesterday from Dungun Hospital. But unfortunately, she died due to internal organ failure from toxins released by the hornet stings,” said Terengganu Health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus.
It was reported yesterday that the girl and her 6-year-old brother were rushed to HSNZ after being attacked by hornets. Her brother’s condition was stable and improving.
According to their mother, Rohayu Mat Lazim, 39, Nur Nazihah, her brother Muhamad Azib and their elder sister were playing with some friends at a hill near their home when her son rushed into the house in pain and with swellings on his body.
She took the children to the Ketengah Jaya Clinic before they were referred to the Dungun Hospital, and then sent to HSNZ.
Our deepest condolences to her family.
RIP, Nur Nazihah.
