The Singapore food agency ( SFA) posted on Facebook on Monday ( Jun 29), an advisory regarding ten types of winter melon products after samples were found to have excessive amounts of sulphur dioxide.
SFA has directed 7 importers to recall the implicated products. The recall is ongoing.
According to CNA, Excessive levels of sulphite in food could result in allergic reactions in those who are hypersensitive to the substance.
Consumers who have purchased the implicated products are urged not to consume them. Those who feel unwell with symptoms like hives, itchiness, stomach ache, diarrhoea and vomiting may wish to seek medical attention.
