Fallen Stars: Japan Entertainment Industry Saddened by The Passing of 4 Actors in 3 Months

Following the death of Haruma Miura on Jul 18, another star of ” The Confidence Man JP” Yuko Takeuchi has died at the age of 40.

The mother of 2 was found unconscious in her Tokyo residence by her family in the early hours of Sunday  (Sep 27) and was confirmed dead at the hospital. Police are suspecting she ended her life.

She had a 14-year-old son with her ex-husband film actor, Shido Nakamura. The couple divorced in 2008 and she remarried with Japanese actor Taiki Nakabayashi last ear and gave birth to a baby boy 8 months ago.

Yuko gained her fame with the morning drama series Asuka (1999) and went on to star in hit series like the ice hockey romance Pride (2004), alongside Takuya Kimura. She also starred in Miss Sherlock (2018), an HBO Asia and Hulu Japan adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes stories which available on HBO Go.

She had been nominated for a Japan Academy Film Prize (the country’s most prestigious acting award) starring in Yomigaeri (2003).

After a long break from acting due to her pregnancy, she appeared in an event promoting an instant noodles earlier this month. Her last IG post was a picture of her in the event. Comments from fans, many in disbelief, tribute have flooded her last Instagram post.

There has been a string of suicides in the Japanese entertainment industry in recent months. Coincidently 3 actors that starred in the TBS drama series ” Bloody Monday” – Haruma Miura, Sei Ashina, and Takashi Fujiki also found dead suspected suicide.

Former child actor Haruma Miura, aged 30 was found dead in his home by his manager and an apparent suicide note was in his room in July.

Actress Sei Ashina, 36, her body was apparently discovered by her brother who went to her home after she had stopped answering her telephone calls. However, no suicide note was found.

Actor Takashi Fujiki, 80, left a note saying he had “no confidence to continue acting”. The police are investigating the case as a suspected suicide.
