Owners Of The Factory That Caused Odour Pollution Which Led to Water Cut Were Arrested!

Four men aged between 50 to 60, who are brothers have been arrested in connection with the odour pollution incident in the Sungai Gong Industrial Area, Rawang that led to water cut in Klang Valley since Thursday ( Sep 3).

The four brothers have been running the factory since their father died.

The factory was alleged of being the source of the odour pollution that caused four Sungai Selangor water treatment plants (LRA) to suspend operations. As a result, 1,292 areas in the Klang Valley, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, and Kuala Langat, involving nearly 1.2 million consumer accounts, have been affected.

The factory was said to release solvent into Sungai Gong which flows into Sungai Sembah, one of the main rivers of Sungai Selangor. And they are the repeat offender who caused the previous water cut which happened in March 2020.

The factory had been sealed and compounded with immediate effect and the owners were arrested on Friday night and the case is now being investigated under Section 430 of the Penal Code.

For those who still have dry taps, hang in there! According to The Star, water supply will be restored by 50% by midnight on Sunday (Sept 6).
