In these grim times, many families and loved ones are separated due to border restrictions, a measure to halt the spread of Covid-19. Recently a netizen posted about 20 families that separated at Johor Bahru and Singapore waved at each other at the ‘closest distance’ on a yacht. The post gets 493 likes and 853 shares. The post stated that the families have been separated for more than 200 days.

On Saturday 24 October 2020, a property developer arranged an initiative in Johor Bahru where these 20 families would can board a yacht that took them closer to the coasts of Singapore so that they can wave to their family members at Singapore.

Equipped with banners and holding signs featuring their message of devotion, when they saw their family members in person after months, many of them shed tears of happiness.

As this would be the ‘closest distance’ they could get through their families, at Woodlands Waterfront Park, passengers on board sobbing waved to their family members all of the way over.

Apparently, many of the lucky families were already there early in the morning. Some children were also seen writing messages on whiteboards over how much they missed their parents.

Binoculars were also provided by the organizer so that families could see their loved ones better and clearly.

Apparently, the yacht was not approved to stop at middle in sea. Therefore, it had to U-turn to allow passengers to wave to their families from both sides of the bow.

It was indeed a sentimental event, with tears shed on both yacht and land.
