Singapore is enforcing Covid-19 circuit breaker, in order to curb the spread of the deadly virus. No one is allowed to dine out, thus the demand for food deliveries have soared.
According to Deliveroo, a food delivery platform in Singapore told media, its top-earning rider for the month of March 2020 earned S$7,095 which is close to RM22,000, jaw-dropping right?! However, Deliveroo did not indicate how many trips this particularly rider clocked.
In the company’s annual rider survey for 2019, nearly half of the company’s riders are young, mostly aged below 25 years old. 72 % of them ride part-time with Deliveroo and have at least one other source of income.
According to Deliveroo, the company received nearly 5,000 rider applications in the first quarter of the year (January to March). a 30% increase compare with Q4 2019.
From 23 March, applications to become a Deliveroo rider surged by 80 per cent, compared to the previous months.
However, the company noted that it is closely monitoring rider figures to “avoid an oversupply of riders and to protect rider earnings”.
We appreciate the riders who works so hard for us, moving around all days put these riders at high risk of infection from Covid-19. They definitely deserved the pay!
