We will have a phone app, something similar to what Singapore is using to traced the infected, and track the movement of the citizens around the country in order to curb the Covid-19 spread.
Malaysia’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said, “When a positive case occurs, they can see the movement (of the individual) and warn others close to the patient to go he ‘Gerak Malaysia’ app was launched for everyone to beta test on both Android and iOS.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) told SoyaCincau that the app was developed based on the same technology used in South Korea and China.
However, National Security Council ( Majlis Keselamatan Negara) replied on The Star LifeStyle Tech tweet that they has not endorsed the app yet on the question should the public use the app.

The app is currently in Beta and it is being load tested by our local telcos. If you want to give it a try, you can download the app now from the Apple AppStore and Google PlayStore.
To sign up, all it requires is a couple of basic details. It needs your mobile number with TAC verification, full name, IC number, address and email. Once that’s done, you’ll just need to keep the app running.
The QR code can be scanned when you pass through a police checkpoint to know where are you coming from and by hospitals and clinics to determine if you’ve been through red zones and flag you as high-risk.
However, effectiveness of the app is determined by how many people are using it. Therefore, the more people use it, the higher the chance of it providing accurate tracking data.
The downside is the app will use your GPS data, you might feel like your phone’s battery draining faster than usual.
The app will definitely help especially after MCO. Anyhow, let’s wait for the government official update on the which app to use.
