Singapore has surpassed Malaysia for the number of cases of Covid-19, with the island republic recording a total of 5,992 cases as of Saturday (Apr 18).
While, Malaysia sits at 5,305 cases as of Apr 18, new cases for today 54, while healing is 3,102 cases. 2,115 2,198 active cases currently treated at the health facilities. 2 new death cases reportedly made a total of 88 cases.
Singapore’s Ministry of Health said that another 942 cases of Covid-19 cases were recorded with the “vast majority” comprising work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories, reported The Straits Times.
“The number of local cases has continued to decline, with 14 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents among the cases today,” MOH said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had said that Covid-19 infections in foreign workers’ dormitories could be expected to grow for a while more and it would take some time for circuit-breaker measures to show results.
Currently, most of the 2,563 cases remaining in hospital are stable or improving. 23 of them are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 2,678 cases who are clinically well but still testing positive for COVID-19 are currently isolated and cared for at community facilities.
