All of us are hoping that the pandemic of Covid-19 get over soon and we could back to our normal lives. Sadly, it seems to be impossible!
On Wednesday(May 13), World Health Organization (WHO) officials had warned that Covid-19 may never go away and the world will have to start learning to live with it.
“We have a new virus entering the human population for the first time and therefore it is very hard to predict when we will prevail over it,” Michael Ryan, the WHO’s emergencies director said at a press conference in Geneva.
“This virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away. “
“HIV has not gone away – but we have come to terms with the virus.”
“I think it’s important to put this on the table: this virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away,” said Ryan. “It is important that we be realistic and I don’t think anyone can predict when or if this disease will disappear.”
He mentioned that “We may have a shot at eliminating this virus” with the help of a vaccine, adding that the vaccine must then be “highly effective” and “made available to everyone” and that “we will have to use it.”
Therefore, the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Many countries would like to get out of the different measures. But our recommendation is still the alert at any country should be at the highest level possible. “
Ryan added that countries would have to stay the course as there was a “long, long way to go” on the way to going back to normal.
Ryan believes that there is a “massive opportunity for the world” to turn “a tragic pandemic into a beacon of hope for the future,” urging the world to “work together to solve our problems through solidarity, through trust, through working together and through a multilateral system that can actually benefit mankind.”
He continued to say, “In some senses, we have control over that future, but it’s going to take a massive effort to do it,” noting that “it’s going to need the political, the financial, the operational, the technical and the community support to be a success.”
“The trajectory is in our hands, and it’s everybody’s business, and we should all contribute to stop this pandemic. “ said Tedros.
