Veterinary Services Department ( DVS) took social media to share about Dog breeds that is restricted or banned to import into Malaysia.
Restricted dog breeds included Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Doberman, German Shepherd/Alsatian including Belgian Shepard and East European Shepard.
DVS also mentioned in their post that the restricted dog breeds are usually dogs trained to carry out certain tasks, for example, military or police dogs. These dogs acts based on certain instruction. Thus, the dogs in this category are not pet but working dogs.
Banned dog breeds included Akita, American Bulldog, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier/ Pit Bull and Neopolitan Mastiff. Their nature makes them quite aggressive and ferocious. Thus, do not mess with them or you may end up in a hospital.
Few days back, there was an incident in Malacca where a Pit Bull attacked a lady when the owner forgot to close their gate.
Maybe you will be asking ” Can i bring in the restricted or banned dogs into Malaysia?”
HELLO. CANNOT at all for banned dog breeds, but for restricted dog breeds, maybe yes, there are certain conditions which set by the government.
You can refer to the Guide to the Importation of Beloved Animals to Malaysia issued by the Department of Quarantine and Inspection of Malaysia (MAQIS). MAQIS has the conditions for the approval of limited breed dog importation for your reference.
