Since we just celebrate Malaysia’s independence for 63 years, a lot of people take the chance to promote their stores or simply celebrate the day using posters. However, McDonald’s was under fire when the Jalur Gemilang in the posters lacked stripes!
As we all know, Jalur Gemilang has 14 stripes representing all the 13 states and 1 federal territory. However, in Mcdonalds poster, there were only 7 stripes, which causes rage among people.
But, fortunately, McDonald’s has received the complaint and changed the posters into the new one with the correct number of Jalur Gemilang’s stripes.
To our disappointment, not only Mcdonalds have a problem with the Jalur Gemilang being wronged in the posters, a lot of government departments, leaders, non-governmental organizations, and enterprises put the wrong Jalur Gemilang in their posters! This Foodpanda posters also did it wrong by putting 17 stripes for Jalur Gemilang in the posters.
The Malaysia Rugby did the Jalur Gemilang wrong because supposedly the stripes next to the blue box are 8 stripes, not 7 stripes!
For the University Malaysia Kelantan, under the blue box that contains the moon and star should be red stripes!
IOI Mall Puchong’s lack of stripes in Jalur Gemilang is very embarrassing!
People might still confuse about how to respect Jalur Gemilang in the correct way. Here’s how!
- Do not put the flag on the ground
- Do not let the flag drift to the ground while lowering it
- Do not use the flag as a table cloth or covering something unless it is for a sign of respect
- Do not wipe your dirty hands on the flag
- Don’t talk while the flag is raised and the national anthem is playing
- Hanging the flag in front of houses and shops on Independence Day is encouraged
Hopefully, a lot of people will be educated regarding this matter and be more respectful in handling the Jalur Gemilang as it is our country’s flag.
