1 Utama Shopping Centre Denies 63 Covid-19 Cases, Says” Only 21 Positive Cases From 6,000 Swab Test”

1 Utama Shopping Centre Cluster was said spiked to 63 cases. The mall was forced shut for 14 days from Oct 11 by the authorities when four cases involving three mall workers and a visitor were detected.

According to Selangor Kini, authorities already conducted 6,000 screening on the mall workers.  Among all, 16 of the mall workers as well as 44 of its security personnel were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive.

Three mall visitors also were found have contracted the virus where two are from the Petaling district and the other out of the Petaling district. Positive patients would be treated at the hospital while their close contacts must be quarantined for 14 days and undergo subsequent tests before being released.

Petaling District Disaster Management Committee chairman Johary Anuar said screenings on visitors to the mall kickstarted yesterday and a total of 110 individuals had been tested, reported by NST.

According to MOH statement, 63 individuals who tested positive are :

  1. Mall management staff : 1 case
  2. Mall workers : 15 cases (12 from Petaling district and 3 out of the Petaling district)
  3. Mall security personnel : 44 cases
  4. Mall visitors : 3 cases (2 from Petaling district and 1 out of the Petaling district)

But the Shopping Mall break the silence this morning, 1 Utama Shopping Centre posted a statement on Facebook to deny 63 cases were detected.

After a mass swab test for 6,000 Mall & Tenant staff only 21 positive cases were detected. They also clarified on misinformation on 44 Covid-19 positive security guards ( security guard is not part of the 6,000 mass testing). The infected cases do not originate from 1 Utama’s premises.
