The Kingdom of Brunei’s government confirmed on Oct 26 that Prince Azim, the fourth-in-line to the throne, had died on Oct 24 morning in the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The cause of his death has not been revealed in the statement from palace.
Prince Azim died was laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum on the same day. He was 38.
However, on Oct 27 his brother Prince Mateen took IG to share the details of his brother’s death as that what the late prince would have wanted. He revealed his brother was diagnosed with severe systemic vasculitis which led to multiple organ failure that took his life.
The post was accompanied by a black and white childhood picture of them having fun.
Paying tribute to his elder brother, Prince Mateen wrote:
“There was never a dull day when my Abang Azim was around. He loved to always prank us, joke around and never took life too seriously. His laughter was so contagious that regardless of whether the thing was funny or not, everyone would end up laughing too. He definitely lived life to the fullest.I spent every day of my childhood with my brother – he taught me so much and made me who I am today and for that I am eternally grateful.”
“Earlier this year, my brother was diagnosed with severe systemic vasculitis, which is an auto immune disease. An auto immune disease is a condition of an abnormal immune system where the antibodies attack its own body tissues. At the same time, he was also coping with bipolar disorder which made the fight harder. Eventually, my brother succumbed to multiple organ failure caused by persistent infections, due to the auto immune disease, which led to his passing on the morning of October 24th, 2020. We wanted to share this information about the illnesses as I know this is what my brother would have wanted. He was a big advocate of bringing awareness to different causes.”
“While my family and I are all heartbroken and love him infinitely, we know that Allah loves him even more; ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to him we will return.’ ”
“Thank you to everyone for your condolences and for keeping Prince Azim and my family in your thoughts and prayers. We are okay. We just miss him.”
