Following the surge of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia since September, our government had taken certain measure to curb the spread including school closure, shorten operating hours for shops, no interstate travelling and so on.

Sadly, still some Malaysians are flouting the SOPs. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the recent clusters recorded were mostly the result of social gatherings including family gatherings, religious events and some celebrations, reported by FMT.

He further elaborated that the Enggor cluster in Perak and Indah Mas cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were sparked by community infection at family gatherings.

Similarly, the Inai cluster and Jambul cluster in Sabah recorded infections that started during a celebration.

“There are also clusters that originated from religious ceremonies, including the Mentari cluster (Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur) that originated from a funeral and was attended by family members and friends in Nilai, Negri Sembilan,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham pointed out that physical distancing would be hard to practice in confined and crowded spaces and urged the public to take the SOP measures seriously, reported by NST.

“As we all know, Covid-19 is transmitted from one individual to another through respiratory droplets; when a person coughs, sneezes, talks and in close contact. If the physical distance between an individual and another individual is less than one meter, the risk of infection is higher.

“It is very important for us to do our part to protect ourselves, family and the community from infection. Just be mindful of your surroundings.” he said.

The Health Ministry today reminded Malaysians to strictly adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) when attending events or gathering at public areas to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Let’s play our part, do not let our guard down as the invisible enemy is still eyeing on us. Let’s try our best to avoid attending gatherings, stay at home as much as possible. Together we halt the spread of Covid-19.
