Police Will Be Issuing RM2,000 fined or 6 Months Jail Sentence For Those Who Runs Red Lights!

As a driver, we have to make sure to drive safely and obey the law to ensure the safety of road users. But sometimes, we do see people or ourselves run over the red light due to being in a rush.

The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has launched a Red Light Operation starting today until December 31 throughout the country involving all contingents and districts.

According to the statement, any individual who commits an offense of violating the red traffic light can be prosecuted under rule 17 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 which can be fined not exceeding RM 2,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding six months.

Datuk Azisman Alias, the director of the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) said the operation is done in order to track down those who violate red traffic lights, especially among motorcyclists including food/goods deliverers (P-hailing) and other vehicle drivers.

JSPT is being serious regarding this matter as a lot of these cases cause accidents which makes a lot of the citizens feel worried. Azman added that the operation also aims to educate and give awareness to road users to comply with traffic lights.

Motorcyclists or other vehicles who are found to have committed an offense will be sued immediately or the details of the vehicle involved will be recorded for follow-up action.
