Here Are 5 Economic Sectors Allowed To Operate During The MCO 2021

The Prime Minister has announced that MCO will take place for 14 days starting from January 13, 2021. A lot of question has arise among netizens about what is allowed and what is not. One of the biggest concern is, are business sectors allowed to operate?

The PM has announced that there 5 business sectors allowed to operate during the MCO. These sectors are called as “Essential Economic Sector”.

▼ 1.  Manufacture and production

  • Food and beverages chains
  • Packaging and printing
  • Household products, personal care products and detergents
  • Health and medical care including dietary supplements
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and fire safety equipment
  • Electrical and electronics
  • Oil and Gas
  • Ceramics (as a mold for making gloves)
  • Iron and steel
  • Textiles (involving the production of PPE)
  • Furniture sector
  • Production, distillation, storage, supply and distribution of fuel
    and lubricants.

  • Critical maintenance and repair work;
  • Major public infrastructure construction works
  • Construction work that has complete accommodation for workers or workers are housed in the Centralised Workers Quarters (CLQ).

  • Financial services including the financial institutions and capital market entities licensed, registered or regulated by Securities Commission Malaysia.
  • Municipal and local government services
  • Telecommunication and digital infrastructure
  • E-Commerce and its chains
  • Hotels and accommodations
  • Agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors including veterinary services
  • Utilities (water and energy)
  • Professional services (including accountants / lawyers / auditors / engineers / architects),
    scientific (including R&D) and technical (including maintenance)
  • Security services
  • Security and Defense
  • Land, water and air transport
  • Services and operations of ports, yards and airports
