This Man Shared His First Time Sitting For SPM At The Age Of 65!

Age doesn’t stop you from learning. Whether you are young or old, learning will always be a part of life. This man decided to take the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) for the first time at the age of 65 years old! He is among the 645 private candidates from 16,554 SPM candidates for 2020 in Negeri Sembilan.

He shared that he took the Malaysia Certificate of Education (MCE) examination in 1973 with all subjects in English. Then, he furthered his studies at the MARA Institute of Technology in the field of Public Administration. He, also the former Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia who retired in 2012, said that he wanted to prove to the community, especially the young, that age is not a barrier to gaining knowledge and gaining success. His family also encouraged his decision on taking the SPM.

Salman said the desire to sit for the public examination had arisen since last year but had to postpone his intention following the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic. He took 3 subjects which are Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris and History also intended to take more subjects in the future SPM. He bought some revision books last year and with the help of his younger brother who works as a teacher, he was guided and learned the subjects that he took for SPM.

Malaysia also made history when a total of 401,105 candidates nationwide sat for the SPM 2020 examination in the new norm when the country was still at war with COVID-19 which was implemented in accordance with strict standard operating procedures (SOP).
