It’s very convenient to go online now, as long as you log in to your social media. You can get almost everything, news, info, assorted things on sale, also services too. Therefore, it’s also the best place for scammer to set up their TRAP!
A netizen, LY took social media to share her horrifying experience believing in one sponsored post and all her hard earned money was gone! Not only all her cash worth RM44,000 but also credit card outstanding amounting RM9,400. She hope her post can increase some awareness so public will not be falling into the similar trap again.
Her post read:
After calming down, i know it’s a must to share and reminding everyone : Please take care of your belongings especially money!
The incident happened on 24/5/2021, the money in my bank account was all transferred! With a total amounting RM44,352.00. My bank completely had no idea about that, until me calling to block my account!
If you think you will never fall into this trap, please just ignore the post. Please do not said i’m stupid and do not tease me!
The moment i’m sharing this, i’m still feeling the pain! I still need to pay for my credit card outstanding! All my hard earned money…. was gone~ Sob~
This is a very long post!
22/5/2021, Saturday :
I saw a sponsored post ( advertisement) in Facebook with the content, cash rebate on water & electricity bills, phone & internet bills and so on.. i was keen to know more then i PM them via messenger.
23/5/2021, Sunday:
They replied me on 23/5, sending me the same content as in the Facebook post, asking for my WhatsApp number, then started our conversation on WhatsApp.
Their customer service told me, i must installed their app, through their platform to get 6-8% of cash rebate. Then they send over a link for me to install the app (Reload Digital.apk), i followed their instruction and installed the app.
Then the customer service told me to top up min. RM10, then i will be eligible for a welcome bonus. Then i tried to top up, using my P***** bank credit card. But, login failed, i tried it twice. I questioned them and they said it’s probably the connection problem, they asked me to try again.
Then i change to another bank and login M**bank, it’s still the same login failed. Looking at the timing it’s around 10pm++, then i gave up on trying.
24/5/2021, Monday:
I tried again in the morning, but attempts failed. I never suspected anything still until i realised they blocked me in WhatsApp.
25/5/2021, Tuesday:
Around 4pm, i received a call from M**bank, asking me any transactions yesterday, i don’t recalled too. Thus, immediately i login to my online banking to check. I found my savings only left with 2 figures. The amount that been transferred without my notice is RM11,500. I was freaking out ! The amount was transferred to my own P***** bank account. But, that’s NOT me doing that.
Then i login to my P***** bank and realised both my bank account only left less than RM100. M**bank said they couldn’t do anything as the amount was been transferred to my own account in another bank.
After put down the phone with M**bank, i immediately call P***** bank, told them my money was transferred without my knowledge! The bank officer said they check on it, and told me it’s been transferred away in several transactions, asking am i the one who did this?? I said ” Of course NOT me!” Then they asked whether i purchased anything online or downloaded any app lately. Then only i thought of that App! The scammer was using that app to get my OTP!
P***** bank told me the culprit should be that APP! The bank did send the OTP but the scammer hijacked it so i don’t received from my end.
I’m not the first victim. P***** bank asked me to lodge a police report immediately and updated the bank. So they can blocked my bank account. But in my mind, what’s the point since my account only left with 2 figures!
After lodged the report was already close to 7pm.
26/5/2021, Wednesday:
It’s a public holiday, nothing we can do in the bank.
27/5/2021, Thursday:
Filed a report in P***** bank. They filled up a form and said will submit to KL branch and said KL branch will investigate, will take about 2 weeks or maybe 3-4 weeks. But the procedure will be the bank will contact the person / company that received the transferred amount, and tried to ask the money back.
Then i was thinking will there be a scammer still keeping the money in the bank account or the money been transferred here and there, where we couldn’t trace. Although i knew chances to get back my money is low. But still believing in law of attraction, giving myself some false hope,
I’m so helpless. My husband and friends are helping me to search online see what else we can do. Then was thinking maybe to look for Malaysian Chinese Association see whether they can help.
28/5/2021, Friday:
Called Malaysian Chinese Association to ask for help, and they found a point!
RM44K had been transferred for 14 times, but WHY the bank never noticed these strange transactions and never called the account owner to double-confirm the matter!
RM44K cash in the account and the scammer used my P***** bank credit card to transfer to my savings account! So, i also have to pay RM9450 credit card outstanding! My gosh! And the bank is charging me additional RM472.50 for cash advancement!
I’m so helpless! In the grim times like these, i was cheated! and the bank said it had nothing to do with them, it’s ME that disclosed my personal info to the third party.
The money was mostly transferred to Finexus cards and Managepay. Both are e-wallet, the scammer using their platform to cheat. I called both company to check the money went to whose account. But the answer i got, is the finger pointing at each other.
Finexus said i’m not their clientele, no rights to check where the money transferred, only P***** bank has the rights to do so. Managepay did help me to check the transaction, and manage to find the money lastly went to who. But however, their answer to me is still the same, only P***** bank has the rights to further investigate.
4/6/2021 Friday:
P***** bank replied my e-mail said i couldn’t get my money back. Both parties(Finexus & Managepay)said their customer already transferred the money away, regretfully they couldn’t recovered the fund transfer. Then claimed it’s my negligence causing 3rd party to get my bank info, the bank successful send OTP to my mobile number.
But my point is : Why the bank do not know all my money been transferred! Why never give me a call to verify is it me that transferred the money? The bank never give an answer on that question.
I used to think P***** bank is secured, thus i save all my money there. It’s all my hard earned money, the savings since i started to work. It’s all gone in a few transactions!
I’m so disappointed with this bank! Why only through other bank i knew my money in P***** bank was all gone, think about it? Maybe the scammer don’t choose M**bank and choose P***** bank because they know the bank won’t call their client to verify. Only until the account owner check only they realised all their hard earned money is gone!
Maybe some of you will say how silly am i, couldn’t login means got problem. But i’m not saint, at that moment, i never thought of any problem. I always read news about scammers, but never thought i will be one of the victim. Heartache! And i need to pay for the credit card outstanding too! I never know we can transferred the amount to our savings account via credit card.
While the police officer, after i showed them my bank statement. They said they will investigate. But when i follow up they didn’t even know who am i.
After the incident, my husband never scolded or blamed me, my family too ! Thanks for all the loves!
Those scammers are still actively advertised in Facebook, don’t know how many out there will fall into the trap! The page name that i was conned was EETech communication and now they changed it to DirectX communication. The police said nothing much they can do.
▼ Sad reading your post, and they are coming with new tricks all the times to con people, hopefully lesson learned~
▼ Suggestion from netizen:Lodge a complaint to Bank Negara. She got the experience to keep Bank Negara in the loop and ended up the banks compromised.
▼ However, still one said shouldn’t blamed the bank. It’s her greed and no logic thinking leading to the current situation.
▼ One netizen reminding everyone that the scammer change the page name again.
▼ ” Never install any app related to payment, bonus, gift that not from Play Store. Because the app can read your SMS, get your OTP and deleted the SMS like payment alert and OTP , etc..)” and one said they will be an alert when you install the app with message ” install app from unknown source will harm your device and personal data” so, please take note!
▼ One also alert everyone not to click on any link in the message that you been selected as winner for a iPhone, or your parcel on delivery click on the link to confirm.
▼ Some thanked her for still sharing this with them, although knowing there will be keyboard warriors criticising her. And praised her action of sharing with intention no one will be falling into the trap again.
