The surge of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia has been largely driven by the Delta variant, which is now the dominant strain in our country. Most hospitals have struggled with shortages of beds, ventilators and oxygen tanks. Thus, some patients leave with no choice but to quarantine at home unless they experienced more severe symptoms.
But what if you are infected and quarantine at home? Self-treated? What kind of medication you should take?
Doctor Haikal took social media to vent that his COVID-19 patient believing in his supplements and ivermectin, which has not yet approved its use as treatment or prevention of COVID-19 infection in Malaysia. He mistook more than 14 pharmaceutical drug which led to the severe liver inflammation, his ALT reading is 10 times higher than normal!
His post read:

When i asked him what medication he took besides medicine from the hospital. Then he took out all them, including:
- Ivermectin
- Vitamin D3
- Vitamin D alphacalcidol
- Vitamin C Mega dose
- Spirulina
- Vitamin B complex
- Vitamin B don’t know what
AND etc etc
I did a rough count on the bottles he showed ~ 14 types of different supplements. I asked him who suggested him to take these much of supplements.
He said NUTRITIONIST from one company.
Then i said:” Sir, the amount of supplements you are taking is like you are staying in country that suffering from hunger and malnutrition. We are living in Malaysia with sufficient foods and we are not up to that stage yet.”
” Do you know? In the case your liver damaged, no one is going to donate or give you a new liver. Sir, please have an “INDEPENDENT” thinking and avoid taking unnecessary medication. ”
His post caught another medical expert, Doctor Rafidah Abdullah from Putrajaya hospital to share and she sarcastically commented,” What a long list of RUBBISH he swallowed. ”
” Ended up not Covid that cause the problem; but ( mistook of medication ) damaged the organs. End up, liver damaged, kidney damaged”
She added,” same here; We are seeing a lot of patients like this now.”

For your information, MOH reports Ivermectin has not yet approved its use as treatment or prevention of COVID-19 infection in Malaysia. However, it is found that there is illegally selling medicinal activities going on. Ivermectin intake without deep study and improper doses can result in poisoning.
Ivermectin can cause harmful effects like vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and dizziness. Terrible effects are low blood pressure, shortness of breath, lung damage, and death. Unfortunately, there is no antidote or specific treatment for this poisoning case.
