The recent floods, triggered by days of heavy rain over the weekend, have also displaced many families. Recently, a netizen was posting anonymously in social media sharing his experience taking leave as the road heading to company was blocked due to the flood. But the reply from HR department chilled him!
The post read:
The recent heavy rains causing flood in several states. I experienced the same, my house and my car was devastated by the flood. We had water cut, power cut and no internet connection. Thus, i had no choice but to contact HR department to apply for emergency leave.
The journey from home to my workplace is about an hour. But part of the road to my company was blocked. But, to my company.. I’m just a joke!
Me：I will need take 3 days off, or probably longer. Because my house and car was devastated in the flood, and the road to the company was blocked too due to the flood.
HR：What about your job? What if your client cannot reach you? You must understand your job responsibility, it’s your job.
Me：Yes, it’s my responsibility. But the flood is not what i want too. Thus, i have to inform you. Because we do not have any connection now, it’s hard for me to contact you and i can’t apply leave online.
HR：Now only you contacted me? ( In fact, my mobile phone connection only back to service in the afternoon). If you do not have connection, you should immediately go somewhere with connection to inform us! If my area flooded, i will be still going to the office the next day. It’s your job responsibility, do you understand? In the case, your client are not able to reach you or any incomplete task. I’m not going to help you. I’m sure you know most of your task need to be completed online.
Me：Yes, but the flood is beyond my control. And i immediately inform you once i got connection.
HR：But now it’s already 5pm. If you want to apply 3 days leave, please apply it 1 week in advance. And if you want to apply leave for 1 day, you need to apply 3 days in advance.
Me：……
