In the case, stranger call and asking for personal info and TAC number, as long we don’t give them then we are safe ; But now it was said even a phone call, you might be hacked?!
Recently, a news was widely circulated online : Do not pick up stranger’s call! According to a netizen, the bank officer told her many people already becoming a victim!
▼ Case 1
The post read:
Seriously, if it’s not necessary please do not pick up stranger’s phone call. The scammer told me i won RM1500 cash prize. I knew it’s a scam call. So, i put down the phone. Then i received a lot of link with TAC. My phone then from 4g turning to 2g. I immediately call the bank to block the account.
So, now even picking up a call is dangerous, the scammer can steal your money without TAC, really scary!

When i was in the bank to restore the account, the bank officer told me already many people becoming victims.
The bank officer told me even picking up the call saying Hello is enough for scammer to hack you. Scary or not?!
▼ Case 2
「I told them i never order pizza but they kept talking to me, the call is about 1.5mins. I put down the call, no long after i received OTP from bank to increase transfer limit. Just within few minutes, RM8750 my bank account was transferred , RM8000 first then RM750.」
He said the whole process happened just within a few minutes. He don’t even have enough time to respond or stopping the process. When he checked his bank account again, the account was left with RM36.86.
The victim called the bank to request stop the bank transaction but it’s too late. He said although his device with banking Apps, but claimed he do not download any games or unknown apps, and never clicked any stranger’s link.
After the incident, he checked with the bank, RM8K was transferred to a Malay man’s account at 11:40am while another transaction ( RM750) was on 11:42am to the same account.
He lodged a police report and informing bank for the rest of the procedure, like changing password and so on.

▼ Some netizen did the same — Not receiving calls from strangers : ” I don’t pick up stranger’s call only contacting via WhatsApp”,”I’m on the setting blocking all the stranger’s call only save some official numbers or else i will just ignore the calls.”
▼ However, we will still need to pick up some calls like Foodpanda, Poslaju and for businessmen how are they going to reject calls from unknown numbers, it may be a lead.

▼ Some doubt whether the post author didn’t reveal the whole story: ” Just received a call and account was hacked, sounded like impossible. Should have other things that you never tell.”, ” I don’t think just a call can link to your account, maybe you have something that you never tell.”
▼ How to avoid scam?
- If seller need you to downloading App from somewhere else other than Play store or App Gallery, likely it’s a scammer.
- Normally scammers using this tactic that appear in : FB, Instagram, advertised for any businesses/ services or disguise as seller – like selling seafood, furniture, or cleaning services.
- What if you downloading the app, what can you do? – uninstalled app – change banking password – lodge a police report
In a nutshell, if seller need you to download some app other than Play store/ App gallery, likely it’s a scammer.
