Taking a sleeper train riding through lush greeneries, paddy field and small town all the way to east coast?!
After the final exam, we are looking at the 1 month school holiday. I will be wasting time if just sitting at home. Even doing part time i will be working only on weekend. Therefore a few of us planning for a short local trip.
We wanted something different. As we never been to some of the states. So, when we check out our bucket list. That is it — Kelantan!!
But in Chinese community it’s hard to get relevant travel information. Thus, i have to use my not so good Bahasa Malaysia to watch some youtube video for introduction to some nice places in Kelantan. Lucky we did the research, so we stand a chance to board on the train.
Went to some nice places, where not so much people know. It was a beautiful memories. This short staycation is worthy!
The most fascinating scenery is just at our backyard!
I ironed out some info and documented my journey in a video, not that professional but thinking to share with everyone. I was on the long haul train and you can get the train ticket in KTM website 【Click here】!
▼ PJ – KL Sentral
We bought 9pm ticket From KL Sentral to Gemas, our journey started from PJ area. We took MRT from KL Sentral. We went to the KL Sentral an hour earlier to confirm the platform to board our train. Then we went NU Central to get some snacks so we can have it on the train.
The train arriving on time. We waiting at the platform for a while then the staff instructed us to queue to board on the ETS to Gemas.
▼ KL Sentral – Gemas
It took around 2.30 hours to reach Gemas. On one of the carriage of the train, there is a place selling food. If you are hungry, you can also have your food in the dining area.
ETS is comfortable, clean and punctual. I’m very proud of the Malaysia’s public transport!
▼ Gemas – Wakaf Bharu
We were reaching Gemas at 12 midnight. Following the staff instruction to wait at the waiting area to board on the sleeper train at 1am. All the shops nearby already closed, so we can only waited at the waiting area.
Again, our sleeper train came on time~ checking which is your bed compartment ( You don’t need to worry about the bed compartment been taken as it’s written on your ticket on your dedicated bed. The staff will be here to check your ticket.)
The time we board on train was a bit late. So not to disturb other passenger, we went to sleep and the next morning only we checked out the rest of the area of the train. The train does have a carriage with a cafe. You can have your breakfast here.
We reached our destination at around 11am. There you go the start of our short getaway to rejuvenate as well as recharge our mind, body, and soul.
Looking at the fascinating scenery outside the window, i think i’m blessed to stay and grow up in this piece of land. It’s amazing feast for my eyes. You should also experience the beauty of nature in our homeland by yourself! Travelling by train is an adventurous way to explore a destination in Malaysia!

▼ I like to travel in train too. But i saw people commenting it’s wasting of time. I was thinking it’s personal preference and it’s just a sharing why bashing on what other’s share. You did a good job!
▼ Q: How much is the ticket?
A: From Gemas to Kelantan around RM40+, depends on the seating.
▼ The train is a bit old but actually not bad. Hopefully some improvement in future.

Is this in Malaysia?!
To celebrate my friend’s final examination was over and soon looking for a job. ( Actually i was thinking to go travel so we went for it). Last month we did a free & easy travel in east coast.
Kelantan is a state that i never step into before. I don’t have much information from family and friends. Moreover, i can’t find much chinese info online. So i have to do use my lousy bahasa Malaysia to watch at some youtube video by Malay friends on destination to explore in Kelantan. But we were happy with our research as we managed to see and eat all the things we want.
① Pantai Senok
No doubt, my favourite spot. Beauty is always when the blue sky meet the blue sea. The casuarina tree in row looks emotionally healing~
② Pantai Suri Floating Market
I get this piece of info from Youtube. Can’t compare to the Thailand floating market as it’s relatively small and with lesser seller and selection.
- Boat fare RM6
③ Pantai Cahaya Bulan
We were there at 4pm nearby burnt by the hot sun. Evening is relatively not that hot. But sea was wavy so not encouraged to swim. You can have a walk and have a dinner in the Malay stall nearby.
④ Phothikyan Phutthaktham
Many special temple in Kelantan. We were choosing one of the temple for a visit. This temple is close to South Thailand. You can see the local Kuan yin and also Thailand four face buddha.
⑤ War Museum
The building itself is historical. It houses more than 1,000 exhibits relating to the war and a mixture of Japanese tool used during the occupation, including Japanese bicycle.
- Entrance fee RM2
⑥ Street Art
Situated in city centre, a mural lane at the back alley. You might need some times to look for it. Thinking to avoid under the hot sun again. We went out on early Friday morning. And we were lucky as there was a Pasar Tani.
⑦ Dataran Cheng Ho
The only street in town for Chinese food. Coffee addict like me enjoying a coffee here everyday before we started our journey of the day.
⑧ Sri Khadijah Market
To pay a visit to the market is the best way for a true immersion, a place with real deal and how local people live. I’m impressed with this market as it has plenty of selection for food, sundries, vegetables and so on..
Tips :Go to the top floor and looked down, it’s pretty interesting!
⑨ Kampung Kraf Tangan
Not much things displayed in the Handicraft museum. But a few shops on the ground floor selling handicraft. You can also experienced the making of batik.
- Entrance fee RM2
⑩ Istana Jahar
Best ever museum in this trip as the museum rich in exhibits. An area at the side to exhibit some weapons too, you can also pay a visit.
- Entrance fee RM2
Although we are in the same piece of land but we are like mistakenly went into a wrong dimension as we do not understand their slang and so do they. I couldn’t imagine that we will have a communication problem here.
▼ Q: Is it convenient? ( grab e-hailing car / rent a car)
A: We wanted to go somewhere far so we rented a car and from KTM station we took grab car to town.
▼ Q: Any restriction on clothing?
A: As long as not too expose.
▼ One netizen praising her : Can’t believe you took such a nice video to introduce Kelantan. It’s a state that most people won’t explore.
And post author also mentioned the backpack travel in Kelantan only cost her RM400 including accommodation, transportation and the meals!
