Monthly Pay RM8k But Can’t Afford Volkswagen! Doctor Downgraded His Car To 2nd-hand Proton! ” Nothing To be Shame!”

Does a car reflect your personality? It certainly does, especially with men. Men often buy cars just for the sense of identity a certain car gives them. Some men will even bite the bullet just for the sake of their reputation..

But this Malaysian Doctor quite the opposite! He realised due to the limit financial capacity, he sold off his beloved Volkwagen buy getting a locally made Proton Perdana!

According to KwongWah Daily, Mohamed Ridzuan from Perlis who is now 31-year-old told 《mStar》: 「 I always like Honda City or Toyota Camry. But, at the time i’m still a student. So i drove a Perodua Viva.」

「On 2019, I decided to change a new car. I test drive some cars including Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Mazda and Volkswagen. When i test drive Volkswagen, i was impressed by Passat solid steering control. I booked the car right away without a second thought.」

From 2016 onwards, Ridzuan started to work as a doctor in Perlis. He bought the car and already a father of one kid, but he did not have any idea on financial planning. He paid RM6,000 as downpayment for his Volkswagen Passat.

「Buying the car was basically for the enjoyment. I bought it at RM195,000 and Insurance fee of RM5,000. I got a RM20,000 rebate and the bank loan was RM170,000.」

「So, every month i will need to spend around RM2,000 for the loan repayment. Although my monthly pay is around RM5000-RM6000 and with additional income of RM2000. But i still think i can’t afford the car.」

He told the media outlet, he tied the knot with his wife on 2017 and started to feel the financial burden as he also bought a house and his wife was in her second pregnancy.

To make ends meet, on April 2022, Ridzuan decided to sell his car at the price of RM120,000 and changed to a second hand Proton.

「Early this year i joined a real estate and financial management seminar. I realised my expenses was out of my financial capability. Then only i started to have more idea on financial management。」

「Early this year around March, i still don’t feel like letting go the car . But i just posted in FB looking for buyer. I managed to sell off the car one month later. But, i will need do settlement for my car loan which is RM30,000.」

「Then i looked for a second hand car as a family car. To make my family more comfortable, i decided to go for a more spacious car. Therefore, i decided to go for a Proton Perdana, Year 2017 that selling at RM60,000.」

Ridzuan is hoping through sharing his experience, everyone can think twice and ensure you make a good arrangement before getting your dream car.

He added:「 We should judge base on our financial ability. And do not need to feel shame for driving a cheaper car.」

▼ Netizen: That’s ok! What’s the problem? You don’t know how many people out there don’t even have a proper meal.

Netizen: Doctor also got financial problem, what about others?

▼ I met someone with RM50,000-RM60,000 income driving Axia.

▼ Netizen : Perdana? High maintenance.

Netizen: I salute you if you straight away change to Axia.
