A post went viral in social media where a Mercedes luxury SUV with single digit car plate number is under the spotlight. Netizen found the car is with 397 outstanding traffic police summons/fines. But, the car is still on the road.
According to the post the outstanding fines are up to RM 118,700. The post author also mentioned ” People in Mont Kiara is not as rich as Penangites. Although Penangites are stingy but they can afford a million ringgit car plate.” He also mentioned the car owner is an insurance agent.
He wondered how can one car with so many police summons outstanding still can be on the road and put the blame on our transport minister.
Some netizen commented: ” How can a car with outstanding summons be able to renew road tax?”, ” It’s a Penang car plate with single digit. This kind of unique car plate must be pricey. I’m sure the owner must be someone filthy rich or powerful.”, ” Hopefully the relevant department can investigate on this matter.”
But according to China Press, the reporter did a check via Police SMS gateway system sending to 15888. The result showed to date the vehicle is with 397 summons amounting RM#####. The outstanding amount of fines is not shown in the SMS.
However, when the media outlet checked with JPJ Penang. The vehicle only with 5 summons and it’s all been settled with no outstanding fines. On the other hand, Traffic Investigation & Enforcement department, Penang told media outlet that the said vehicle do not have any outstanding summons.
