Direct Selling Agent Fined RM50,000 compound for Selling COVID-19 Bracelet!

Fear can make us do irrational things, leading to some people taking advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic to capitalise on panic buying consumers.

Recently, on 25th July, a compound of RM 50,000 was issued to a direct vender for promoting and selling bracelets that claims to keep off Covid-19, on her Facebook page.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) had investigated the vendor after receiving several complaints when the bracelet went viral on social media.

Datuk Iskandar Halim Sulaiman, Enforcement Director of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP), announced that the compound action was taken after a problem that went viral on Facebook took place regarding the promotion of the Covid-19 bracelet.The bracelet was promoted for RM 580 each that was said able to ward off Covid-19.

“Her action in promoting the product by giving misleading statement is an offence under Section 10 (1) (h) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and a maximum compound of RM 50,000 was offered to her,” he said in a statement on Saturday, July 25.

Legal actions will be taken by the authorities if she fails to settle the compound.

“KPDNHEP is serious in ensuring that consumers are not deceived by promotions or misleading statements on the use of a product,” he added, that anyone who promotes or sells any products must always befits the principles the rules and regulations by the government.
