Starting from 1st August 2020, it is mandatory to wear face masks in public crowded places and public transportation for the citizens including school students. Those who don’t comply with the order, they will be slapped with a RM1,000 compound.
But some citizens can’t afford to buy face masks all the time as the three-layer face masks are only allowed to wear once.
The Malaysian government previously announced that the price of a piece of three-layered mask has been reduced from the original price of RM1.50 to RM1.20, 20% reduction, starting from 15th August 2020 and the wholesale price will be reduced from RM1.20 to RM1.15, a complete of 4.16%.
Now, according to Bernama, The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will lower the ceiling price of masks per unit from RM1.50 to RM1.20.
Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the ceiling price of three-layered face mask will be lowered from RM1.50 per unit to RM1.20.
“But now based on the citizens’ response, we have discussed that maybe we will decrease the price of face masks lesser than RM1.20,” he said in response to an additional question from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) during the Ministerial Question Time (MQT) session here.
Khoo would like to know the steps taken by KPDNHEP to ensure that the price of face mask is lowered.
Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the ceiling price of face masks will be lowered starting 15th August 2020, the same date as the previous announcement on 23rd July 2020.
Well, this is a very good move for the underprivileged ones who can’t afford to buy face masks always.
