According to Malaysiakini, this is only the second time that Malaysia recorded a double digit rise in new cases since Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced MCO that began on March 18, 2020.
Malaysia conducted 9,717 tests from 12pm on Apr. 16. There were only 69 new confirmed cases of Covid-19.
A total of 201 people recovered and were discharged, bringing the total to 2,967.This also marked the 5th day in a row that the number of discharged cases exceeded the number of new cases.
A total of 51 patients remain in intensive care which 26 require ventilators.
The total number of confirmed cases stands at 5,251.
Malaysia’s lockdown has been extended to Apr. 28, 2020.
Despite the low number of new cases, Noor Hisham also reported two deaths.
An 84-year-old Malaysian man and an 85-year-old Malaysian man died on Apr. 16.
