Another 1,426 cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore as of Apr 20, the highest daily spike in numbers since the outbreak. Among, these only 16 are Singaporeans and permanent residents, while majority are Work Permit holders residing in dormitories.
Sengkang General hospital recently shared a heart-warming video of one of their doctors, Dr. Muntasir, talking in a loud speaker to the workers at a dormitory to reassure these workers he and his colleagues were there to care for their health.
Dr. Muntasir holding a loud speaker, donning a mask, surgical cap and scrubs, can be heard speaking in Bengali.
“As you all know, there is a massive spread of the Coronavirus infection all around the world. Unfortunately, it has come to your dorms too. Should you be afraid? I will tell you that there is nothing to be afraid of as we are already here for you all. We will be taking care of your health.”
He urged workers to follow the rules, which includes wearing masks, stay at the room all times, wash hand with soap as many times as possible and keeping the surroundings clean, and ensure a safe distancing.
“Cleanliness remains the key to fight this disease. All these rules will keep you safe from the infection,” he said.
Dr. Muntasir also tell the workers if they are feeling unwell, they should inform doctors in command centre. Do not be afraid and hide things as medical staffs are there to help and take care of them.
They acknowledged that the workers had contributed to Singapore’s growth, and it was Singapore’s turn to take care for them.
“You have done your part for Singapore, you have built the buildings we live in, you have built the roads we travel upon, your contribution to Singapore is enormous. You are one of us and we will take care of you.”
A translation of his heartfelt message in English is provided below. It tugged at their heartstrings and they hope the workers felt it too.

𝑇ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢!
Singapore really did a good job in taking care not only their citizens but also migrant workers. Hats off to you!
Praying hard that we will get over the pandemic disease soon!
