Saki Kakehashi, 24, admitted to the allegations, and the police also believed she had routinely neglected and abused the daughter, Noa.

She made an emergency call upon her return from a trip on Jun 13, claiming Noa was not breathing, and the daughter was pronounced dead later at a hospital

Initially She said Noa became ill several days before her death but she had no money to take her to a hospital for treatment.

However, a friend of Kakehashi’s told the police, “She had left home for several days and returned late at night, leaving her daughter unattended.”

Autopsy results also showed Noa died from severe dehydration and hunger. Her stomach was almost empty. The mother is suspected of leaving her alone at home for 8 days in early June while visiting her boyfriend in Kagoshima, southwestern Japan.

Kakehashi then told investigators that she did not expect Noa to die as she thought “it would be alright” to leave the toddler alone in their apartment, where the two had been living alone since around July 2017 following her divorce from Noa’s father.

Noa suffered a rash on her bottom as her diaper had apparently been unchanged for a long time, and the apartment had large amounts of garbage scattered in it.

According to China Press, most netizens criticised on the mother cruel act. Here are some of the comments, ” Poor little girl, she must be so hungry, thirsty and lonely, crying and looking for mother”, ” How can she let a 3-year-old child stay at home alone, this mother is too cruel”,” I’m a mother of a 3-year-old toddler too, how can she left her daughter at home, she is not fit to be a mother”.

Little angel, May your soul rest in peace!
