Today, Aug 13 is the International Left Handers Day. The day to celebrate the uniqueness and differences of the left handers. A subset of humanity comprising 7 to 10% of the world’s population which is approximately 708 million left-handed people in the world. Men are more likely to be left handed than women.
The day was first observed in 1976 by Dean R. Campbell, founder of the Lefthanders International, Inc. The International Left Hander’s Day was created to celebrate sinistrality and raise awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of being left-handed in a predominantly right-handed world.
The day also spread awareness on issues faced by left-handers e.g. the importance of the special needs for left-handed children.
It’s still not known whether it’s genetic or learned. But somehow, University of Athens took 100 people for a studies ( where 50% are left-handers, while another half are right-handers). The studies showed that left handers performed a better memory task, they are basically faster and more precise.
The left brain is more verbal, analytical, and orderly than the right brain. It’s sometimes called the digital brain. It’s better at things like reading, writing, and computations
The right brain is more visual and intuitive. It’s sometimes referred to as the analog brain. It has a more creative and less organized way of thinking.
