When we were young, our family members would tell stories of scary ghost folklore and use it against us if we are misbehaving. In conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Festival, we found a very interesting horror game that incorporates ghosts like Jiangshi, Er Gui, and Toyol!

This Singaporean man decided to create a single-player fantasy action role-playing game called Ghostlore and it is based on the ghost folklore that most Malaysian and Singaporean grown up too. The project began at the start of 2019, as the creator wanted to create something out of the ordinary and introduce more of Southeast Asia to gamers.
He shared that he doesn’t want to make a game with a western setting since it is widely available and tries to create something that closes to home. The games currently have a demo, which you can play using your browser. The settings of the game are a mimic of Singapore. It is very cute and detailed!
These are the ghost characters inside the game. It’s so creepy but cool~
ā¼ Jiangshi, the Chinese zombie that is hopping
ā¼ Er Gui, a hungry ghost which usually appears during the Hungry Ghost Festival
ā¼ Toyol, the small ghost that always commits petty theft and sabotage
ā¼ Djin, known as a supernatural creature in early pre-Islamic Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology.
ā¼ Pocong, a ghost in a burial shroud.
ā¼ Hantu Raya, a ghost that can shapeshift into their master.
ā¼ Pontianak, a ghost of a woman who died in childbirth
ā¼Penanggalan, the ghost of evil witch
ā¼ Rakshasa is a giant demon that loves to eat human.
