According to ETToday, the cause of Alien Huang’s sudden death was revealed to be an aortic dissection, said his manager Dino on Friday (Sep 18).
What is Aortic Dissection?
Aortic dissection is a serious condition in which there is a tear in the wall of the major artery carrying blood out of the heart (aorta). As the tear extends along the wall of the aorta, blood can flow in between the layers of the blood vessel wall (dissection). This can lead to aortic rupture or decreased blood flow (ischemia) to organs.
The exact cause is unknown, but more common risks include:
- Aging
- Atherosclerosis
- Blunt trauma to the chest, such as hitting the steering wheel of a car during an accident
- High blood pressure
Aortic dissection occurs in about 2 out of every 10,000 people. It can affect anyone, but is most often seen in men ages 40 to 70, according to US National Library of Medicine.
However, Dino said that the 36-year-old had no prior cardiovascular diseases and appeared to be in good health during his medical check-ups.
Speculations that Huang’s death at home was a freak accident were dispelled by the autopsy report, which did not uncover external injuries.
Huang’s devastated father is focused on making arrangements for the wake, after finding out the cause of the star’s death. It’s 3-day wake reportedly started yesterday, according to Taiwanese media reports.
The wake is open only to Huang’s relatives, friends and colleagues. For fans, his label Rock Records said that they are in the midst of planning a memorial concert, with more details to come.
