Cinema Operators In M’sia Will Closed From November Onwards, Until Further Notice

Sob 😭 .. no more cinema until further notice.. Tell me what else can we expect in year 2020?!

Malaysian Association Of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) or the cinema operators, have come to a painful decision to temporarily suspend operations from November, until further notice at all the cinemas nationwide.

Malaysia cinema industry suffered deep revenue losses up to 90 % year-on-year due to the drop of admissions amid the pandemic.

The decision was reached after the second closure due to CMCO, as well as lack of content.

GSC’s CEO told The Star,“The industry is incurring losses of RM1.3mil a day, which translates to a total of loss of RM475mil in 2020, compared with a profit of RM102mil in 2019.”

TGV’s General Manager can’t agreed more saying, ” Since cinemas reopened on July 1 after a full three-month closure, we have already endured deep revenue losses over that period.

“The industry had shown some signs of recovery, but the most recent CMCO put a major strain on our operations.

He added: “Closing and reopening businesses like cinemas is extremely cumbersome, costly, and disruptive to our industry, suppliers and customers.

Vice president of MAFE, Cheah Chun Wai said the decision was not easy, but they believed it’s a necessary step for the long-term preservation of Malaysian cinemas, so they can continue our role of contributing to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of our nation in the long run.
