This pandemic does not letting anyone off the hook, everyone is affected in various ways. One of the biggest effect it has is on the economy which led to unemployment issues. Many people lost their job, forcing them to be creative in finding a new job or a new way out that they can rely on to feed their family.
A post on Facebook garnered over 7.3K likes and 159 shares when it tells a story how a man who lost his job has started selling drinks by the roadside in Penang. What makes his story interesting is, he’s selling the drinks while with the Iron Man costume!
Losing his job due to Covid-19, a former telecommunication company staff did not complaint, instead, he’s benefiting what he has by selling corn juice (air jagung) wearing costume of the famous Marvel character, the Iron Man.
Muhammad Syukur Mohd Patthi, 26, said he was dismissed from work last August and after two weeks having difficulty to find another job, he started this business along with his two friends Yusri Md Saad, 35, and Mohamad Zaidi Zainal Abidin, 33, at the junction near Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam.
” As youngster, we should not be to dependant on people’s help and gives. As long as you have the strength, it is better for you to find your own sustenance,” he told Bernama.
He said while working at the telecommunication company, he also did a part time job as a superhero costume entertainer and cartoon character in a group called Penang Superhero Gang (GSP) and they often receive reservation to entertain children at birthday parties and other. However due to the current pandemic, those reservation have been cancelled. That’s why he come up with the idea to sell this drink wearing a Iron Man costume.
According to him, at the beginning of this business, they suffered up to 90% of loss but now they are getting stable. They also donated to the police who worked along the roadblocks in Penang.
