On Oct 29, the youngest sister of King of Bhutan, Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck married with Queen Jetsun Pema’s brother Dasho Thinlay Norbu. They have a closed-door ceremony and the King only shared the good news in his IG after the wedding ceremony.
The newly wed couple still preserve Bhutanese customs by wearing traditional costumes. The bride puts on a national dress for Bhutanese women, Kira – a raw silk hand-woven traditional dress while the groom wears traditional silk gho – national attire for men.
The current ruler of Bhutan is Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the 5th Druk Gyalpo married with Jetsun Pema and formally proclaiming her the Queen for Bhutan on 2011 when she was 21. They have 2 children aged 5 and 5-month-old. Their love story is another modern day fairy tales.
Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck, 27-year-old youngest step sister of the King graduated with a major in Sociology from Georgetown University in the United States in 2016. As President of the Bhutan Paralympic Committee, Her Royal Highness represents Bhutan internationally to take forward the participation of Bhutanese athletes with disabilities in various global sporting events.
While, younger brother of the Queen, Dasho Thinlay Norbu, 28-year-old graduating from St. Stephen’s college in Delhi University, Dasho trained as a pilot and has been flying for the National Airline Drukair since 2019.
The two were said in a relationship for a few years and decided to tie the knot this year. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the royal family chose to do a closed-door event instead.
The royal wedding was held in Dechencholing Palace in Thimphu. The Royal Couple received the blessings of His Majesty The King, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and His Holiness the Je Khenpo.
