Some Malaysian K-pop fans have attacked the KL-based girl group for being a copy cat of the most popular K-pop superstars Blackpink, but the group says “we never intended to copy them”.

Malaysia is the 7th most significant k-pop market in the world, according to a report titled #KpopTwitter 2020 by Twitter. But, instead of appreciate this girl group localised the spin of the genre, some bashed them being a copy cat.

The girls, aged 19 to 25, named Sabronzo, Tabby, Angel, and Syasya. They signed a contract with Universal Music Malaysia and released their debut single “Dolla Make You Wanna” on March 2020, and the video has had more than 2.9 million views.

The girl group said, “We may sing and dance like K-pop bands, but we think we are quite different as we don’t sing in Korean, we only sing in Bahasa Malaysia, we are M-pop.”

However, it’s not all netizens bashed them being copy cat but we also found a lot of supporting voices out there. Let’s check out some of the comments:

Some said Syasya copying Lisa because she has bangs. Somehow, i think the two really look alike. What do you think?

“As a girl group, a big part of our goal is to let girls know that gender is no boundary. While inspiring and uplifting both our female and male fans,

“Both our songs, and especially “Watch Me Glow”, have been about not letting anyone stop you from being yourself and achieving your dreams,” said Tabby.

I personally think these girls are very talented, to master the ability to sing, rap and dance with good stamina, and balance it  with the other members in the group is not easy. I can definitely see their effort pushing boundaries in the local music scene.

Let’s check out their latest song ” Watch Me Glow”:
