The Youngest Mayor Of Eastvale, California Is A 25 Years Old Woman From Kedah, Malaysia

This is the time for all Malaysian to be proud of this young lady! Jocelyn Yow, a 25 years old woman from Kedah has made it international as she is now the mayor of Eastvale (Riverside County) California. Not only that, she is also announced as the youngest woman of colour to serve as a mayor in California!

Looking back at her journey of becoming who she is now, this new mother of a 6-month-old baby boy, Kayden was a graduate from Jihua National Chinese Middle School in Kedah. On her graduation book, she wrote “Today, I am proud of Jihua and for the rest of the day, Jihua will be proud of me.” Well, it seems that her dreams do come true! In fact, now all Malaysian are proud of her too!

After completing primary and secondary school, she moved to Eastvale City with her parents. Now Jocelyn Yow is a graduate from Norco College and UC Berkeley and currently is a policy manager in a national non-profit organization “IGNITE” dedicated to the development of woman’s political power. Despite handling responsibilities as a politician, she is now also pursuing a master degree in government at Harvard Extension.

In her Instagram post, she recalled how her mother had to endure separation, fled Vietnam and came to US as a refugee at a young age. While in 1980s, her father came to United State in order to pursue a higher education and for a better future.

In 1990s her parents moved to United State, however, in 1996, they had to move to Malaysia when her paternal grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. She then ended up staying here for over 10 years allowing her to learn more about family history, heritage and culture. She also stated that she is proud to be a Malaysian-Vietnamese-Chinese-American!

On the 9th of this month, Jocelyn has officially sworn in as a mayor of Eastvale City, making her the youngest female mayor in California! Previously in 2018, she was elected as the first Chinese female city council in the same city and  she was also one of the youngest Asian city council in Southern California! She made that extraordinary achievement at just 23 years old!
