If you often find yourself in the middle of confusion what olive oil to buy, just know that you are not alone!

Thankfully, a lady on Facebook has come out to help us! She has breakdown olive oil into few category and explained how to use them too. Her post has garnered over

According to her, there are few types of olive oil you can find. These olive oils are just the basic ones you can easily find in the supermarkets.

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Organic extra virgin olive oil
  • Virgin olive oil
  • Pure olive oil (Normal taste/mild taste/light taste)
  • Pomace olive oil

Okey, so let’s get to know their differences and uses!

▼ Extra virgin olive oil and Organic extra virgin olive oil

  • This is the one if you’re looking for a pure olive oil. It is made from “cold pressed” process.
  • The different between extra virgin olive oil and organic extra virgin olive oil is that the organic olive oil it is planted in an organic environment but it is much more pricey.
  • It has a very low smoke point, meaning that it is not suitable for COOKING. If you cook it, it’ll becomes saturated fat and will be dangerous for health.
  • It has the lowest acidity. It is even lower than evco (extra virgin coconut oil)
  • Suitable for salad dressing and to consume as supplement ( this good to prevent from constipation)

This is the example extra virgin olive oil.

▼ Virgin olive oil

  • Comes from the second extraction (first extraction is evoo)
  • Still has a low smoke point. High heat are not good and it’ll ruin the taste, aroma, texture and nutrition.
  • suitable for sprinkle on cooked food such as porridge.

▼ PURE OLIVE OIL

  • Still has a good quality, it just that pure olive oil is the excess result of the extraction. To make it edible, this excess olive oil is mixed with a bit of extra virgin olive oil to make it pure olive oil.
  • You can use it for stir fry, but not deep fried.
  • The acidity level is between 1-4%.
  • There are usually mild, light & extra light taste. Light doesn’t mean low in calories, it refers to the aroma, taste & smell.

This is the example of extra light olive oil.

▼ POMACE OLIVE OIL

  • This is the lowest grade of olive oil but it is also the cheapest olive oil too.
  • You can still buy this olive oil, but it is better to buy at least the pure olive oil.
  • You can use it for saute, stir fry, spray on grilling items and so on
