“The Squid I Bought From The Market Completely Dissolved In the Boiled Water After 8 Minutes”

A netizen shared a video of her squids in the boiling water, when it’s time to take the cooked squids out for serving, she just realized the squids were gone and the boiled water was turning white. What was going on? where did the squids go?

On Jan 26, a lady from Sichuan, China craving for boiled squids with chilies. Thus she bought some squids from the market. But after she boiled it in the water for few minutes, her squids were gone, presumably dissolved in the water.

She posted the video on social media, but some netizens doubted the authenticity of the video. Thus, she went to the same market and the same stall to bought the squids again, she timed and documented it when she boiled the squids.

The squids were left with some residue after 5 minutes boiling in the water and it’s completely gone after 8 minutes. The boiled water was turning white. She was worried and wondering if it safe to consume those squids.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority already took samples of those squids to conduct tests on food safety.

According to Sina, experts said the condition might result from multiple frozen and thawed process. The quality of the seafood affected by the freeze-thawing as the process damaging the cell structure denatured the muscle protein, and the seafood will loss of water-holding capacity too.

Are some netizens also wondering will it be like fake eggs or plastic rice? synthetic squids maybe. But experts said it’s unlikely the synthetic squids looking at the cost and the process of making is too complicated.
