Although this year, we will need to celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) under a new norm. A lot of us cannot “balik kampung” ( going back to hometown), reunion dinner only with family members within 10km. But as part of our culture, a lot of us will still buying new clothes, because new clothes symbolizes a new start and fresh hopes for the New Year.

Same goes to this netizen, during MCO, he chose to purchase new clothes in one of the Malaysians’ favourite clothing retailer online store. However, he was shocked by the bill as he was charged RM128 just for the tax.

He took social media to share his experience as well as urged other online shoppers to take note on the Terms and Conditions ( T&C), before any online purchase.

His post read:

I really go Holland this time round (I did a silly mistake) !!

Thought of CNY is around the corner, due to the MCO, we are not able to buy new year clothes in the shopping mall. Thus, we shopped online, not an issue. Since it’s very convenient to shop online now. Just pick and pay !

Until today when the courier company called,” Anybody home? we need to deliver your parcel, and you will need to pay RM128, RM70 for customs duties and remaining the service charges.”

What??? I bought the clothes and need to pay additional RM128 for tax? ” Because you clothes was send all the way from Netherlands, hence the charges”

But, this is strange, because the retailer do have plenty of outlets in Malaysia, why sending those clothes from Netherlands? The delivery guy told me,” you are not the only one complaining, a lot of customers also not happy with that.”

Then i called the customer service (CS), the CS said: ” we do stated in T&C at the bottom, please have a look.” ( I have attached on the following, please take a look!). I wonder how many of us will read the T&C? Maybe i’m not that educated, i didn’t read them.

I really hope other online shoppers to take note on the T&C before you make any purchase, because after payment it’s not easy to do the refund. It’s not to say we do not want to pay the tax , but i think the retailer should let us tick a box to ensure buyers acknowledge it before proceeding their payment, so they won’t felt the heartache like me because my RM128 just gone like that.

– please share so more people will take note-

Let’s check out the netizens’ responses:

▼ ” All the orders for Hxx online store will shipped from their warehouse in oversea. I used to purchase and it was shipped via their UK warehouse, but no additional charges incurred”

▼” I never make any purchase in their online store, but i used to read through T&C before i make any purchase”

▼ ” Do not exceed RM500 for one shipment, or else split into 2 orders, shipment less than RM500 will not be taxed. Or if you need to pay the taxes, you can go customs department by yourself in order to save RM 50 UPS charges”

▼”Actually it was written clearly in Hxx online store, extra fees will be charged for custom duties/ import taxes upon delivery, as items are shipped from Netherlands”

Let’s have a look on the T&C :

▼ ” Thus, going through the T&C is very important, can’t blame anyone.”

The netizen who shared his experience, hoping others shoppers can read through the T&C before any online purchase. So, this time lesson learned for him.
