Buying From Street Vendor At Traffic Lights Can Cost You Up To RM2,000 Fine

Pretty sure everyone has encountered street vendor who sells their pickled mango, various drinks, snacks and many more at the traffic light junction.

That might seems like a creative selling strategies but it also does come with a risk. As Johor Chief Police, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said, these businesses at traffic light is an offence as it risk both the sellers and other road users.

“According to the law enactment, not only the vendors can be be prosecuted but also the buyers for which they can be fined not more than RM2,000,” he said in a press conference.

Adding to that, his advise for the traders is to look for other sales strategies that is safer and accordance with the provisions of national law too.

“My advice, look for other methods or locations that are more suitable to run a business and is not dangerous,” he said.

However, he also stated that his party has not received any accident reports involving business activities at traffic lights.

In the latest news by Kosmo, Kelantan Police have stressed that they will not hesitate to issue a fine to street vendors and buyers at traffic lights throughout the state starting this week.

“Starting this week, we will ensure that no more vendors carry out hawking activities along traffic light areas throughout the state of Kelantan,” as stated by Kelantan Deputy Chief of Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner Abdullah Mat Piah.
