Have you ever pay a visit to Zoo Negara Malaysia? A netizen took social media to share his experience and thoughts after visiting our Zoo.

The post was attached with some photos he took in the zoo. It can be seen in the photos that environment of the zoo is not only harsh and dirty, even the ferocious tigers are scrawny too!

The post read:

Is this our national zoo?? I’m disheartened looking at the environment here!

It’s my first time visiting the national zoo. Since it’s national, does it represent Malaysia too? reflected our country image too?

Because when we travelled abroad, we will paid a visit to their Zoo or aquarium, so like wise i’m sure the tourists coming to Malaysia will be visiting our zoo too. I couldn’t imagine what is their impression toward us.

Most of the time last year we were under MCO, i do understand without income from ticketing, the zoo was under financial pressure. However, looking at the living environment and the zoo conditions. It’s heart-breaking!

A lot of visitors coming to the zoo today, at 10am in the morning. i can see crowd queueing. I believed the crowd was due to the school holiday. So we parked our car in Zone B.

The weather was hot, thus we was thinking to go to the air-conditioned aquarium first. But i couldn’t believe around 80% of the air-condition malfunctioned.

Most fish tanks were dirty, we hardly found the fish as labelled on the tanks and some fishes with terrible skin ulcers.

Looking at the map, we were thinking maybe the penguin enclosure would be better. Ended up the water and glasses can be seen very cloudy and dirty! Is this the penguin we should see? They even do not have clean drinking water, is it already up to this stage?

Except for the entrance, VIP tram rides and counters selling drinks with Zoo staff. We almost didn’t see anyone giving direction, cleaning or taking care of the SOP.

Most of the enclosures were in very terrible conditions, leaving algae to fill the pools and plants to creep into animal cages. Most area were stinky, smelled mouldy and animals were skinny!

I went to Zoo in Singapore, Taiwan and Korea before. It’s not that i want to make comparison but we are not a poor and backward country. Why can’t we have a basic and clean zoo? only panda centre and reptile are considerate quite clean (although half of the air-condition is not functioning).

l don’t mean to nitpick, but for me this is quite serious. No doubt, the area is quite big. Giraffe and some tigers are ok! But half of the animals are living in terrible conditions, it’s really disheartened!

I got to know the zoo is managed by a private entity. But can the government also step in to look into this matter, maybe some subsidy or anything. Anyhow, it reflected our country’s image.

I’m neither an influencer nor celebrity, I’m just hoping at least those animal get proper treatment, like clean living environment and sufficient food . Please share this and help them!

Tickets for adult is RM48, somehow i felt the mini zoo in Johor with RM2 entrance fee also not bad.
