After Changed to Smart Meter, Electricity Bills Go Up to RM3315. Netizen Says,” Same Here, Living in Fear Now!”

Ever since Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) upgraded the conventional meter to a smart meter – a device to help households and businesses track their energy consumption.

But, a lot of Malaysians encountered problem with the sudden increase in energy consumption. One netizen took social media to share her electric bills which increase more than 10 times in a month time!

A netizen, Victoria wrote in the post,” TNB changed a brand new Smart Meter for me on May 31. But in less than a month, my electric bills was amounting RM3112.28. What about the rest of you? Do you experience the same? I’m freaking out!”

▼ Her May energy consumption only cost her RM203. Since, she started to use the Smart meter on May 31, then a sudden increase on June. The bills went up to RM3315.65!

▼ She received her physical copy of bills not long after, which really cost her RM3,315.65

▼Actually a lot of people also experience the same, ” Mine last month RM160, now RM250″, ” Ya everyone experience the same after change to the Smart Meter, sudden increase of electricity bills”

▼ ” Mine used to be RM 70/80 But now RM200++. I’m living in fear now, have to be caution on the energy consumption” Another netizen also agreed with her,” Mine around RM300-600 and now become RM1,000++ and night time  i can’t turn on so much lights and air-cond.”

▼ Netizen A: ” My house only 3 of us me working and 2 students. After change to Smart Meter my bills was from RM200 ++ to RM 700-800++. We used to complain a few times but they said it’s normal as all our rooms with air-cond”

Netizen B :” Mine RM 40-50 to RM200. They said the same, we have air-cond. But the fact is i never turn on air-cond. I spend RM5 to get them over to check. But after a few complaints, my bills now back to RM40-50″

Netizen c: “Mine is around RM160, even during MCO is around RM200. But after we changed to Smart meter it’s around RM250. We also never turn on air-cond”

▼ Maybe the Smart Meter is too accurate?

▼ One netizen suggested her to complain to TNB, so they can send someone for  inspection.

▼ But one also said even lodge a complain does not help.

▼ One suggested to record the amount of energy consumption everyday on the same timing to monitor the usages, for e.g which appliances used up more energy. Maybe try to lodge a complain in TNB!
