I found a lot of Shopee related post in XiaoHongShu, those post make a lot of my friends approaching me and asked: ” is that for real?” . I don’t know since when a lot of people start to show interest in this company.
I recalled one survey shown : The most wanted job for university graduates, one of it is Shopee. I kind of agreed with the statement, as most of staff are 90s fresh graduates.
I have been in the company for a year plus, let me tell you the actual working environment / culture!

This post is mainly about the position : Key Account Manager, whose taking care of the big brands, assisting them to increase sales.
Shopee is one of the giant of e-commerce platform. Thus at the moment, it’s a lot of fresh graduates’ dream job.
Mainly because:
- Pay, benefits are generally better from others company
- Company with a lot of young staff, you can work with colleague around your age.
- With a lot of benefits & perks
BUT! Is the job and working environment in Shopee really what you want? Let me kill your dream!
Advantages:
① Youthful
Work is not rigid. Company always need new blood to come up with idea.
② Good benefits
I personally think it’s MNC standard benefits ( Maybe just slightly more, haha! But don’t ask me whether got staff price or not)
③ Good working environment
No picture uploaded, as we have been working from home ( WFH) for quite some times. But other post might have some picture, you can check it out! Yes we do have a nice pantry with unlimited supply of titbits, milk, beverages, yogurt, ice-cream. Sometimes, we have afternoon tea ( tea + Kueh etc), fruits.. no doubt, food is the part that satisfied me.
④ Flexible working hours
One of the plus point for me! I think mainly because most of our colleagues are pretty young like our age so easier to communicate. ( Easy to communicate is very important!)
Disadvantages:
① Start up business
Shopee has gone from an upstart in 2015 to the market leader in 2019. So, it consider very young company and developing in a very fast pace, thus it’s pretty challenging.
② Never ending workload
Due to the competitiveness in e-commerce, besides the usual sale-day like 11.11 , 12.12 or new year sale, now almost every month we have 2.2/ 3.3/ 7.7 and so on. Also all sort of promotions + shocking sale. As a Key Account Manager, you have to always communicate with your in charge brands and lead them to execute the promotion, so it’s a never ending work.

③ Rest day on festive fall on weekend? No no no!
Literally no work life balance, OT is a norm. Please expect promotional activities on festive. Thus, on festive holiday or weekend you will still need to work.
④ Company located in city centre, expenses on lunch/ parking is higher
Shopee office located in Mid Valley, there is no kopitiam nearby. So, you will have to have lunch in the mall or takeaway lunch. Thus, you normally need to spend more than RM15 for 1 meal. Parking cost is higher too.

Actually i think if you like challenge, or can work under pressure. This company will suits you, or fresh grad who wanted gain some experience can try too.
