Apple launched the newest iPhone 13, maybe it’s time to change a new phone. I believe most of you will be like me thinking whether to buy the phone straight from Apple/ Apple authorised reseller or sign a package with Telco.

An iPhone user took social media to share her experience in signing an iPhone 11 Pro package with a Telco and she only realised she actually need to return her phone when her contract ended?!

Her post read:

I have paid my phone bills fo 2 years. Now only i realised i will need return my phone to Maxis.

On November 2019, i bought an iPhone 11 Pro, 256GB ( The price at that time : RM5599) I signed up a RM128 package. Thus, every month ( RM128 monthly phone bill + GST+RM131 payment for the phone) , it’s a 24-month package.

I double checked with the sales associate is it on month 25th i just need to pay RM128. After i got an answer from him only i signed the package.

I’m currently in Singapore, was thinking after 24 months then change to a plan with cheaper monthly bill will do. But the moment, i called Maxis to ask for the details changing to another plan, only i realised the difference between Zerolution and Zerolution 360.

Mine is the Zerolution 360, on the 25th-month i will need to return the phone to Maxis. Which means i was renting the phone from Maxis for 2 years and it’s time to return the phone or else i will need to pay RM2000++ only the phone will belongs to me.

So, I was paying for RM6400.32 for 2 years, and only today i realised the phone doesn’t belong to me??

Anyone encountered the same problem? how to deal with this? felt like crying.

▼ ” Oh no.. my contract finishing soon! Now, i’m wondering whether the phone is mine”

▼ A netizen had a same experience:

” I just finished my Zerolution 360. I had the same experience, me and my husband signed the same contract / plan and after a few months only we realised the catch. We had no choice but to pay until the contract ended. When i came to know it. I asked the centre to look for the CCTV footage, and told them we will never signed for 2 plan in the case we knew this clause.”

▼ ” I signed the Zerolution plan for 2 years, paying RM128 + phone RM127 but after 2 years the phone belongs to me.”

▼ One netizen said,” I signed the same plan too. But they did mentioned i can only own the device on month 30th. It’s actually written in the flyer. ”

▼ Some netizen commented, some sales associate in the Telco not that professional and purposely do not disclosed this clause when they were selling the package to you.

▼ However, some netizen sided the Telco and said nothing wrong with them. “You are supposed to read the clause before signing any contract.”, ” It’s you that should understand the plan first.”

▼  Some sharp-minded netizen said when you do the math then you will know it’s definitely not the price for a phone.

24 X RM131 = 3144 and the 11pro was priced RM5599 at that time. How can it be possible that the phone belongs to you after you paid RM3144.

Even you have another 6 months, 30 X RM131 = RM3930 also quite worthy!

▼Some commented RM2000+++ is the amount to pay for breaching the contract. Actually just paying for another 6 months the phone will belongs to you.

▼ Some said that’s why after so many years they are still insisting getting a phone and not signing the plan with any Telco.

▼ “Actually, for me it’s not a scam. We should read the clause before signing anything. The salesman job is for you to ask if you don’t understand and moreover it’s all written in the contract. Some are lazy to read.”

▼ Some read this Zerolution 360 as a plan for those who wanted to change their phone every year. In the case, the screen damaged or phone missing then you are covered. In that case, it’s better than Apple care.

▼ The post went viral and was widely discussed. The post author commented and replied:

After reading all the comments, Erm.. I wanted to say:

The plans are for the consumers. Those who couldn’t give any constructive solution please do not try to condemn me, i don’t really understand what’s the intention. I wanted to change plan then only change my phone. Who will be that silly to spend RM3000 ++ on a phone that will not belongs to themselves right.

Yesterday a friend shared in a chat group that the Zerolution plan is for RM199, and 2 years later the phone belongs to you, the difference is only RM68. I’m paying RM200 a month, it’s ok with the additional RM68. If i knew this will be that ridiculous i will definitely choose Zerolution plan for RM199 per month, ok?

Moreover, i didn’t see the clause and the sales associate also never mentioned on this clause. If he knew the point then he should be telling me when i asked about the payment on Month 25th need to pay only RM128? Why he just answered Yes?

If this plan is reasonable then why it’s no longer available? What i wanted to say is~ it’s misleading the consumer, just because they wanted the consumer to sign a 2 year plan. I decided to share this because i wanted to create more awareness so the public will be more aware when they signing any plan ~ and, what else did i missed out?

So only on Month 30th i will owned the phone. I only came across this when i read the comments. But the customer service (CS) never mentioned in the call, only 2 options were give : return the phone/ paying additional RM2000+.

What’s the pros and cons of this package? Please share with me, thanks!

The post author intention was to share her experience. So, more people will be aware and take note especially signing with any plan/ package.
