Recently, the most popular techniques malicious actors are using to get unauthorized access to private information and financial data is asking victim to do download some APP. Then the money in the bank account will be transferred to the scam syndicate.
Let me share with you how the scammer do it. How they transfer the money from your account without you noticing it.
1. Download their APP
2. Install and open APP
- After you installed the APP. The APP will ask you to allow them to access your photos and video ( But in actual, you grant an access to the hacker to read your SMS too).
3. Register, Place order, Payment
- 2 kind of payment method in the APP —— Credit card payment & online banking。
- You can only choose online banking，as credit card service is always down.
- Select your bank and the APP will land you on the online banking interface screen.
4. Login to your banking account
- You will need to enter username and password.
- Once you click login. The APP will notify you service down for the bank.
- Probably you will be thinking to try other bank, but it will end up the same.
- You will be thinking probably it’s the bank’s problem causing the payment process failure.
5. Then the amount of money in your bank will be transferred to some stranger.
What is their modus operandi?
- The scammer will ask you to install their APP. But the content is fake including the banking interface landing page.
- Yes! You didn’t see it wrongly. The bank interface is the fake one too.
- The scammer design a similar interface to make you fall into the trap.
- That’s where you enter your username and password.
Maybe you will be questioning, ” How to transfer my fund without SMS TAC?”
- Yes, you grant them the rights to read your SMS in the beginning.
- The scammer can read your SMS TAC through your APP.
That’s how it work.

Q1. How to avoid falling prey to these scammers？
A1：If the seller need you to download some APP neither from Play Store or App Gallery. Most likely they are scammers.
Q2. Where normally these scammers setting up trap/ or waiting for their prey?
A2：
- They will disguise as seller / service provider in FB / Instagram
- For example selling seafood, furniture or providing cleaning services and so on.
Q3. What if i already installed the APP, what should i do?
A3：
- Immediately uninstall the APP.
- Change your Banking password immediately.
- Lodge a police report.

If seller asking you to install APP from somewhere else other than the google play store or Huawei play store. Most likely, it’s the scammer.
