Make Sense?!Boss Said 「Basic Salary: RM1200+Comm+Allowance> RM2k. Min. Wage of RM1.5k is to Take Care Employee With Income Less Than RM1.5k 」

It’s official that Malaysia to start RM1,500 minimum wage from May 1.

But a Malaysian took a Law &Justice related page to ask for public opinion, Joseph’s basic salary is only RM1200. He took his courage to ask the boss why the basic salary is below what officially gazetted. But, he felt something went wrong with the reason given by his boss!

The post read:

Hi everyone, even since i started to work my basic salary is only RM1200, and including commission and transport allowance which is RM200. I will have around RM2,500.

Most of my friends started with RM1500. But my boss was telling me the basic salary of RM1500 is to take care of the foreign worker. If i have more that that amount, i will not have the rest of the benefits.

I’m not so well-versed in Labour law. Therefore, i wanted to ask is what my boss said right? Somehow i felt he is cheating me.

The WhatsApp text read: 

Joseph : Boss, mind me asking why my basic salary is RM1200? Isn’t it the latest baseline salary is RM1500?

Boss, Joseph, Yes you are right the latest gazetted baseline salary is RM1500 but that is for those with income lower than RM2k. As government need to take care of employee with income less than RM1500. Therefore, including KWSP, the salary must be at least RM1500. But yours already more than RM1500. So your salary will remain the same for now until further notice.

Netizen: As long as the employee never reported to labour department, nothing will happen to your employer. The baseline salary of RM1500 is applicable for all, government and private sector.

Netizen: Why need to be capable? even without experience you should get RM1500. Foreign also worker started with RM1500.

▼ Just reported them, as if you lost your job because reported your employer you will get allowance from Perkeso and EIS. In the same time, Perkeso will help you to look for a job within 3 months. Actually, government do have department taking care of employee’s benefits. It’s just most of the people don’t dare to try or believe in them.

  1. Ask for RM1500 as your baseline salary
  2. Quit and reported to the authority .
  3. Remain silent and continue to work hard, so your boss can change a new car on CNY.

▼ Netizen: I just started to work. During the probation my salary is only half which is RM650. My boss said after 3 months my salary will be adjusted to RM1200. I asked isn’t it the basic salary should be RM1500? He said not much people in the company with basic of RM1200. I don’t have a job so now, so have to still work no choice.

Netizen: I bumped into a boss before, he said the salary will be adjusted after probation. But after probation, my salary remained the same. I questioned the boss and he told me, he had included EPF& Socso which is the increment. Then i quit, no point to stay there anymore.
