When we calculated what a decent living wage should be, it was based on food baskets and basic needs of an average individual and a family. It was based on real needs. In Malaysia, RM1,500 is the minimal wage.

An anonymous netizen took twitter to share his hardship as he is earning RM1,500 but his parents wanted him to buy a new car, Honda. And always compared him with their friend’s children.

The post read:

Dad and Mum always ask when i’m going to get a new car, a Honda. But, my monthly salary is only RM1,500.

It’s kind of sad as i’m always been compared with other’s children achievement.

▼ Admin, please help me to hide my profile. I just need a place to rant. A little bit about myself, i’m with RM1,500 monthly income and my parents always wanted me to buy a new car, Honda. They said it’s their dream car but i can’t afford.

My mum is a housewife and my dad not working ever since he fall sick. Every month me and my sibling give my parents pocket money every month as they do not have income. I’m sad because they always compared me their friend’s children achievement.

▼ Until one day, i asked them why can’t we live with what we have..

As a conclusion, me as a child hoping parents out there, instead of asking when are you going to buy a Honda”, ” When can you get a new job, so you can afford a Honda”, Maybe is better to say,” I wish you can get a good job, so you can get a Honda”

I’m sorry if any of you don’t feel the same. Maybe i’m just too emotionally.

▼ Netizen: Maybe ask your parents why they are not as successful as other parents, why can’t they buy Honda instead. I don’t like parents that compare their kids with others. We just live according to our ability, since your parents also not as successful as other parents. So you can just relax.

▼ Netizen: No. In regards with expenses, please do not listen to others. Just listen to your wallet.

▼ Netizen: I learned the hard way not to listen to parents blindly. Especially in terms of financial and career as your path and theirs are totally different. You do yours, just take those comment as encouragement not a rigid guidelines. Just chill!
